See odds, expert picks and storylines for Panthers vs. Seahawks.
Rookie quarterback Bryce Young will miss Sunday’s game, and Andy Dalton will start for the Panthers in Seattle for a matchup with Geno Smith’s Seahawks. Carolina enters as road underdogs. Young missed practice all week with an ankle injury.
Opening kickoff is slated for 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday at Lumen Field in Seattle. The game will air on CBS.Through two weeks, the Panthers look like a team in the early stages of transitioning into a new era, which is predictable considering the team’s roster construction. This season is about bringing Young – No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft – along little by little and preparing him for the future. Dalton was the start for most of the season last year with the New Orleans Saints.
The Panthers have a league-low one completion that gained 20-plus yards this season, partly due to the conservative defenses Young has faced. Opposing defenses have blitzed Young on just 14.8 percent of his dropbacks, per TruMedia. If predictability is what you’re getting with the Carolina Panthers in their current state, you’re getting the exact opposite with the Seahawks. But that makes them an interesting team to follow — you don’t always know what you’ll get. Certainly, on the offensive end, Geno Smith and his pass-catchers would prefer to resemble the Week 2 version of itself this Sunday than the Week 1 .
But the defensive unit is due for a “welcome to the 2023 NFL season” type of performance, and a rookie quarterback opposite the line of scrimmage could be just what the doctor ordered.
