Michael McManamon's family is utterly devastated.

Michael McManamon passed away when the Mercedes C220 he was travelling in was involved in a collision with a Ford Mondeo shortly before midnight on Friday night near the Kings Park Hotel, Rutherglen.

The 73-year-old died at the scene on Mill Street at the junction with Kings Park Avenue. The 80-year-old driver was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but sadly he could not be saved.A statement from Mr McManamon's family said: "We are devastated at the loss of our much loved dad, papa and friend. He will be sorely missed but we are comforted by the messages from the community, who valued his help and friendship over the many years.

The 34-year-old Mondeo driver was arrested in connection with the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. Sergeant Gemma Blackadder from Lanarkshire Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with both deceased’s family and friends. “Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may be able to help and who hasn’t yet spoken to police to get in touch.Sign up to Glasgow Live's newsletter Get all the latest Glasgow news and headlines sent straight to your inbox twice a day by signing up to our free newsletter.
