The mayor of the French capital has postponed her plunge into the Seine after furious Parisians threatened to defecate in it to protest against the billions spent cleaning the iconic river ahead of the Olympics next month.

In recent months, E. Coli bacteria, as well as other pathogens, have been detected in the Seine - raising fears that Olympic swimmers could be infected with potentially deadly dermatological and gastrointestinal diseases. On May 23, just a few minutes after Ms Hidalgo said she would dive into the Seine, the hashtag #JechiedanslaSeinele23juin began to circulate on X.
The website allowed people to calculate where and when to “do their business” so it would arrive in Paris by the specified date.
