A regional Queensland council under financial pressure backtracks on its decision to sell community assets after backlash from local residents.

Two petitions to save Waterloo Hall from sale garnered more than 1,000 signatures.Two small halls and a pocket coastal parkland will be removed from a council land sale after community protests.

Along with the hall, other properties, including five blocks of green space just metres from the beach at Bargara and St George Hall at South Kolan, were also on the chopping block.'Gobsmacked' by support Tiny Tots Park at Bargara was five of 26 lots previously approved for sale by the Bundaberg Regional Council.At the council's November meeting, there was a unanimous vote to remove a number of facilities, including Tiny Tots Park and the Waterloo and St George halls, from the sale.

Divisional councillor Larine Statham-Blair told the community she had received countless emails and phone calls from residents with varied views on the issue.
