With its initial two-year Flock Safety contract soon expiring, Parma Heights is expected to sign a new five-year deal with the Atlanta-based company that provides automatic license-plate-reading cameras.
“These cameras are across the United States,” Parma Heights Police Chief Tanya Czack said. “We can actually track someone by their license plate or looking for a certain type of vehicle from one area to another, from one city to the next.
“We’ve solved multiple stolen vehicles and recovered stolen autos because of them. The cameras were recently used to recover a stolen auto at the North Church Towers. The detectives looked in the morning on Flock cameras and found it in the parking lot.”The new five-year contract is for $125,000 -- $25,000 annually -- with the police chief noting there is no cost increase from what the city is currently paying.
However, Parma Heights officials are considering adding Flock’s Condor cameras at Nathan Hale Park and Kurtz Park.At $3,000 annually, each unit is remote-controlled providing live and recorded on-scene video. “They’re not reading license plates,” she said. “Instead, they’re actually live monitoring parks or high-target areas.”
The new Flock contract is expected to be approved by the end of the year with installation of Condor cameras taking place in early 2024.“I can’t tell you how many of us have said we’re so glad we have the Flock cameras.”“It’s very important for our police department to have these tools to help mitigate crime in our city.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
