Parts of Queensland to go into lockdown, seven new COVID-19 cases | cloe_read

Parts of Queensland will go into lockdown for three days from 4pm on Saturday as the state recorded seven new cases of COVID-19 overnight.

Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the cases were all confirmed to be the Delta strain of coronavirus.No visitors will be allowed to homes in the 11 LGAs across south-east Queensland.The restricted areas are Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Logan, Noosa Shire, Redland City, Scenic Rim, Somerset and Sunshine Coast regions.

Hospitality venues will be restricted to takeaway only, while cinemas, hairdressers, gyms, and other entertainment venues will be closed.Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young urged everyone in the restricted areas to stay home unless it was absolutely critical. Dr Young said contact tracers were working through the connections to the school, adding that the medical student had “been to a lot of venues”.“She has been to a lot of venues, a lot of places, at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, at the University of Queensland, at the Translational Research Institute [at the Princess Alexandra Hospital], and also she has a sibling who works in a hospital,” she said.
