Shaken passengers on a flight from Perth to the Pilbara mining town of Paraburdoo have recounted their terror when they were told to brace before their plane rapidly descended on Monday afternoon. Qantas flight QF1624 managed to make it safely to Geraldton and while passengers have praised the crew, there has been criticism of the airline’s handling of the terrifying mid-air scare.

Shaken passengers recount terror when told to brace. An issue with the Fokker 100’s autoflight system, which began 20 minutes into the flight, is now under investigation. Sinead Campion was flying with her 11-year-old daughter and was so concerned that she called her husband to say goodbye. “When they said ‘get ready for the emergency landing’, that’s when there was a lot more noise on the plane,” Campion told 7NEWS. “Everyone was kind of talking.
