We chat with PastLives actors Greta Lee, Yoo Teo & John Magaro about how their characters intertwine in A24's new movie, as well as their thoughts on what they were in their own past lives:
A24's newest movie Past Lives is headed for a wide release on June 23, but it's been making waves since debuting in film festivals earlier this year. Playwright Celine Song wrote the screenplay and makes her directorial debut in this touching and romantic tale about childhood friends Nora and Hae Sung who lose touch after the former leaves South Korea.
Greta Lee: I mean, in a lot of respects, she's just a normal woman. She's maybe the most normal of all the women that I have gotten to play. I love playing characters and existing in different genres, but in this space where it was much more tonally, it's a more naturalistic way of performance.I just found that all really challenging, and it felt like a radical place to tell a story like this.
John, I love how Arthur would awkwardly insert Korean at different moments. How well-versed were you in Korean, and what was it like giving those line readings?
