Things get dramatic between Jean-Luc and Beverly in Picard season 3 according to Patrick Stewart: 'The scenes I have with Gates [McFadden] in season three are among my favorites because they were emotionally naked, both of them…and vulnerable.'
Patrick Stewart hints at tension between Jean-Luc and Beverly in Star Trek: Picard season 3. After being absent altogether from Picard seasons 1 and 2, former Enterprise chief medical officer Beverly Crusher is finally back in the fold for season 3. This obviously means the happy return of Gates McFadden, who played Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation season 1, infamously was replaced for season 2, then returned for seasons 3-7.
Star Trek: TNG fans well-know how complicated things could occasionally become between Picard and Crusher during the show’s 7-season run. Speaking to Den of Geek, Picard actor Stewart teased that Jean-Luc and Beverly continue to have a rather tense relationship all these years later, while hinting at some major life event that changed things between them in the years before Picard season 3.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Well, there was a lot of personal tension that was always there. Jean-Luc always admired her, and she, him, in equal measure. But there have always been issues in the past where Picard thought maybe she wasn’t behaving appropriately. And, of course, there had been the makings of a romance, which didn’t seem that it was going to work out. But [this season], we learn that life-changing things have actually happened for Beverly Crusher and Jean-Luc Picard.
Given how upset Jean-Luc seems to be at Crusher when Picard season 3 resumes their relationship, it’s safe to assume the “life-changing” event between them was truly huge. Could Picard and Crusher have actually had a child together that Crusher then elected to hide from her former captain? This would certainly be enough to make Jean-Luc furious.
Why Picard Season 3 Is Set To Enrage TNG Fans Again Revealing that Picard and Crusher had a child together would be the sort of soap opera twist that used to be forbidden in the world of Star Trek, but is more part of the picture in the era of NuTrek. This may all make for great drama in the eyes of Star Trek’s new stewards, but old school TNG fans will no doubt regard it as more evidence that the new regime doesn’t “get” what made Star Trek great.
