Just a week after the tragic death of the former player and coach, the Australian Sports Brain Bank has acknowledged the donation in a bid to further the understanding of the concussion-related condition chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
Green was found dead at his home in Brisbane last Thursday, aged 49. He is survived by his wife Amanda and children Emerson and Jed. His family left the following post on the Sports Brain Bank website, with a goal of raising up to $150,000 for research: “In memory of our beloved Paul, we ask that you support the pioneering work of the Australian Sports Brain Bank.
Paul was known for always looking out for others. We are proud that part of his legacy will be looking out for the brain health of all others involved in the game that he loved.The premiership-winning North Queensland coach played also played for the club alongside stints with Cronulla, Sydney Roosters, Parramatta and Brisbane.
He won the Rothmans Medal with the Sharks in 1995, having two years earlier won the equivalent award in the Brisbane competition.Green was also at the helm for the unheralded North Queensland side’s run to the 2017 grand final, which they lost to Melbourne after becoming just the second eighth-placed side to make the season decider.
