Sir Paul McCartney's move to High Park Farm on the Mull of Kintyre gave the star the 'real freedom' he had been craving.
Sir Paul McCartney's affection for Scotland is well known and the country's influence on his music is clear, with 1977 Christmas No1 Mull of Kintyre still a much-loved tune across the globe.
In 1968, his then-girlfriend Jane Asher had encouraged him to buy High Park Farm in Campbeltown at the foot of the Mull of Kintyre in Argyll. As well as helping him save money from the taxman, it allowed him a quiet place away from the wild world of The Beatles - with relationships strained at the time.
As well as reinvigorating his family life, his time on the Mull of Kintyre allowed Sir Paul to reconnect with music and launch his next project. Denny Seiwell, who’d played drums on Ram, and old friend and former Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine completed the original line-up. The line-up changed through the years and in 1977 Sir Paul's love letter to the region which had inspired his musical comeback - Mull of Kintyre - became Wings' most successful track.
