Pearland City Council on Monday appointed longtime staffer Trent Epperson as city manager...

Courtesy of City of PearlandPearland City Council on Monday appointed longtime staffer Trent Epperson as city manager and later in the same meeting reprimanded one of its members for unauthorized release of information that influenced the only other finalist for the position to withdraw their candidacy.

Emails that Cole said Kamkar had sent were displayed on a screen at the meeting. Both messages included attachments of a packet listing information on the semifinalists. The candidate later chosen, along with Epperson, as one of two finalists was contacted by the Texas Municipal Police Association because someone had contacted the group on behalf of the Pearland Police Officers Association to do a background check on that person, Cole said.

“The ethics violations were broken at the state level,” said Councilman Tony Carbone. “That’s so frustrating. If we don’t hold ourselves accountable, how can we hold others accountable?”
