A Pearland Police Department officer shot a man wanted for kidnapping at a Houston apartment complex Tuesday afternoon, according to the Houston Police Department.
The officer, who wasn't identified by name, was attempting to arrest a man wanted for multiple felonies, including kidnapping, police said in a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
Pearland officers in marked and unmarked cars attempted to arrest the man in the 4900 block of Griggs, police said. The man ran away, and during the chase took out a handgun, police said. The officer then shot the man multiple times, police said.That man was taken to a local hospital by helicopter. He was in critical condition, but was expected to survive, police said. The man wasn't immediately identified on Tuesday.
The officer has worked for the Pearland Police Department for nine years, Houston police said. He was wearing a body camera, but police said it would be up to the Pearland agency to determine when to release a recording of the shooting. In a statement, the Pearland Police Department said the officer would be placed on administrative leave during an investigation into the shooting.
