The city of Pearland is planning to expand treatment capacity at its Barry Rose wastewater treatment plant.Pearland City Council has approved a $13.37 million design contract related to plans to boost wastewater treatment capacity at its Barry Rose plant to meet future needs.

The work would include establishing a lift station and pressurized line to transfer waste flow from the Longwood facility to the Barry Rose plant. “It’s a big project with big engineering rates, but relative , the cost is well within the standard of what we see for design services,” Interim City Manager Trent Epperson said.

The move would ensure compliance with the TCEQ’s requirement that the city begin planning for expanded treatment capacity at the Barry Rose plant once flow reaches 75 percent capacity.The council also on Feb. 21 awarded McCarthy Building Cos. an additional $1.17 million to its contract, totaling almost $2.35 million, for pre-construction services for the Barry Rose project.
