BRAZILIAN FOOTBALL icon Pele will spend Christmas in hospital following reports that his cancer has advanced.The three-time World Cup winner has admitted to hospital on 29 November for a respiratory infection and for doctors to re-evaluate his treatment.

A statement issued by the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo, on Wednesday, said Pele “requires greater care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions” due to the “cancer progression”ICON: Pelé during one of his World Cup appearances Kely Nascimento wrote: “Your love for him, your stories and your prayers are a HUGE comfort because we know we are not alone.At the beginning of December, his family said Pele was in hospital for a respiratory infection which was aggravated by COVID-19.

Pele, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is widely considered the greatest footballer of all time.Pele also won the World Cup with his national team in 1962 and 1970.
