As President Trump lashed out at Democrats for investigating his efforts to pressure Ukraine, Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff pushed back
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff on Wednesday fiercely pushed back on President Donald Trump’s attacks on Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, as Trump profanely lashed out at the pair in the middle of their news conference.
The split-screen performances by the country’s two most powerful politicians is just the latest turn in a relationship that continues to captivate Washington. Pelosi again relived last week's call with Trump in which the president defended his conversation with Ukraine’s president as “perfect,” just hours before she came out for an impeachment inquiry. She described that as an inflection point in her decision-making.
The whistleblower "wrote a vicious conversation," Trump said. "In other words, he either got it totally wrong, made it up, or the person giving the information to the whistleblower was dishonest. And this country has to find out who that person was. Because that person is a spy, in my opinion.”“Nancy Pelosi and shifty Schiff, who should resign in disgrace, and Jerry Nadler and all of them — it’s a disgrace what’s going on,” Trump said.
“We want to make it abundantly clear that any effort by the secretary, by the president or anyone else to interfere with the Congress’ ability to call before it relevant witnesses will be considered as evidence of obstruction of the lawful functions of Congress,” Schiff said. “They have nothing to do with each other,” Pelosi said. “That’s really up to him, and I do expect that he does want that and he does need that and he’s not going to blame it on us because we are honoring our oath of office.”
