Penn Badgley elaborates on his no sex scene rule for You season 4: 'That aspect of Hollywood has always been very disturbing to me — and that aspect of the job, that mercurial boundary — has always been something that I actually don’t want to play with.'
Penn Badgley offers up some further information regarding the news that he asked for You season 4 to feature far fewer sex scenes. First released on Netflix in 2018, You follows Joe Goldberg , a charismatic but obsessive man who goes to great lengths to become close to certain individuals he becomes captivated by. The show has earned generally positive reviews from critics and most recently aired season 4, which sees Joe in London, now the target of a mysterious new killer.
In addition to now being older than most of his character's romantic interests in the show, which "didn't used to be the case," Badgley explains that the entire notion of sex scenes in Hollywood more generally is something that he's not entirely comfortable with. Check out Badgley's full comment below:
“My fidelity in my relationship. It’s important to me. And actually, it was one of the reasons that I initially wanted to turn the role down. I didn’t tell anybody that. But that is why.”Can You Work With Fewer Sex Scenes? After three steamy seasons that all follow generally the same formula, You season 4 switches things up by having Joe be the one who is stalked, instead of the other way around.
