Pennsylvania Republican Doug Mastriano officially concedes governor's race to Josh Shapiro
State Sen. Mastriano contested the results of the 2020 election in a tweet that remains live two years later, for which he was ultimately subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 committee. Republicans in the state attempted to nominate a less controversial choice during the GOP gubernatorial primary who received"millions of dollars and the support of nationals PACs and organizations" over Mastriano, something the state senator noted in his concession announcement.
"Difficult to accept as the results are, there is no right course but to concede, which I do, and I look to the challenges ahead," Mastriano wrote in his statement."Josh Shapiro will be our next Governor and I ask everyone to give him the opportunity to lead and pray that he leads well."Mastriano stood by his calls for election reform in the state and doubled down on his doubts regarding election outcomes.
"As I write this, the final results of the 2022 Mid-term Elections are still not available," Mastriano wrote. The Washington Examiner confirmed that the results are still unofficial, with Mastriano losing to Shapiro by roughly 700,000 votes so far."We can and must do better to make our elections more transparent, secure, and more quickly decided."
