Foreign Minister Penny Wong is pushing back overseas visits to two counties in order to stay in Australia to help with the government's evacuation flights out of Israel.
Ms Wong was due to hold talks this week with her counterpart in Japan Yoko Kamikawa, as well as South Korea's Foreign Minister Park Jin.
I will remain in Australia to lead the Governmentâs consular, humanitarian and diplomatic response to the attacks on Israel by Hamas and the ongoing conflict.The Albanese government is facilitating repatriation flights to pick up Australians in Israel amid ongoing tensions in the region following terror group Hamas brutal attacks on October 7.
"The situation is challenging and rapidly changing. People should consider these might be our last flights for the foreseeable future." “I want to stress these flights remain subject to factors including the security environment, and I’m not in a position to go into details for pollution, operational and security reasons.
