David Kidd was receiving over £300 to help him care for his wife
A pensioner says he has been forced to live on his savings after an allowance for caring for his wife has been stopped. Just one day after being told his state pension was due to start, David Kidd, 65, a retired financial advisor, was informed by the DWP that his £305 carer’s allowance will be removed.
“I’m lucky to be alive, let's put it that way,” David explained, realising after being discharged from hospital on Christmas Day 2018 he would have to retire. From then on, apart from some savings, David’s sole income was his carer’s allowance, ChronicleLive reports.
