The cause of the 76-year-old's death has not yet been made public.
The Fatal Accident Inquiry due to be held at Glasgow Sheriff Court later this year will examine the circumstances before Gerard Hooks passed away while in Scottish Prison Service custody.
Meanwhile, a preliminary FAI hearing will also be held in the death of Darryl Goodwin at the same court on June 5, following his death in police custody.
