The Australian’s Washington Correspondent Adam Creighton thinks people can’t “write off” former US president Donald Trump easily as it is unknown what the economic situation in the country will be like in 2024.
“If there is a serious recession, and there could be because interest rates are still climbing and inflation is still high, then many people will just vote against the government of the day,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“If he happens to be the alternative, then people may well forgive him in such numbers that he manages to scrape back in.”
