The UK Government recently set a new target to save at least £1.3 billion in 2023-24 through its dedicated counter fraud and error resource. The Department for Work and Pensions said this will be a significant increase on the £1.1 billion savings achieved last year, cracking down further on those exploiting the benefits system and stealing from those who most need help.

Nearly six million people are claiming Universal Credit, however, many may not be aware that certain changes in circumstances must be reported to DWP or it could impact their entitlement or payments and in some cases, lead to a penalty fine or even a court appearance. It adds that you need to report changes “as soon as they happen” because any delay “may mean you receive too much money and will have to make a repayment”.
