Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Jeremy Doku which poses interesting questions for Cole Palmer.

A £55.5m fee has been agreed with Rennes for the transfer of Jeremy Doku and if everything goes to plan the winger is expected to be signed in time to feature in the weekend's clash with Sheffield United.

It was obvious reinforcements were needed and Guardiola came close to admitting as much after the match: "We will need everyone with this schedule and calendar. Over the next one or two [weeks] the club have to take some important decisions with the squad. We didn’t expect with Kevin and we didn’t expect with Riyad to leave but I have a feeling we’ve spoken about that.

The young attacker is very highly rated at the club, in the same breath as Foden, but had a difficult last season as injuries disrupted his development. Now he is looking like a player determined to make up for lost time. Yet, despite his potential and his good displays, Palmer's City future remains in doubt. Speaking after the Sevilla win, Guardiola admitted he didn't know if the player would still be at the club once the transfer window closes.

But if Foden is swapped to a midfield role, that leaves only Jack Grealish, Bernardo, Doku and Palmer as City's wingers for the season and with such a gruelling campaign there are bound to be chances. Either way, Palmer hasn't got long left to make his decision.
