Music, magic and acrobatics from returning and new performers attract audiences throughout the OC Fair.
Near the OC Fair’s Green Gate, The Flying Royals jump through hoops — literally — to entertain passing people from within the boundaries of their 360-square-foot space., said April Chodkowski, a troupe performer who also serves as the announcer. She peppered the entertainment director with requests to perform for 18 months, she said, not taking no for an answer even when told there wasn’t the space for the act.

In the group’s experience, it can be difficult to get an audience to sit through a 30-minute show, Chodkowski said. Instead, their approach is more experiential, spacing their acts out every half hour so people can keep coming back to see a new part of the show.
“We are constantly stretching, exercising. You kind of have to ride the line of not being too warm to work and not being ready to work,” Chodkowski said. Among other returning acts are the Red Light Brass Band, which roams the fairgrounds from 2 to 6 p.m. daily, and the live band karaoke on the Plaza Pacifica Stage each night.
