NSW Premier says health officials are 'always assessing the situation' for potentially tighter restrictions as the state recorded its highest daily COVID-19 infections since the pandemic began.

"We want to make sure that our health system has the capacity as we move through this next challenge of the pandemic," he said. The Premier also didn't rule out reinforcing mandatory face masks, adding health officials are tailoring the response"as the situation evolves"."There will always be different opinions from time to time. We're always assessing the situation. I said as Premier, we'll tailor our response as the situation evolves. That's exactly what we've done over the last two years.
"There will be curve balls, certain things we don't expect. There's almost certainly to be other variants that may come our way, and we'll need to respond and we'll continue to work in conjunction with the people of our state to get us through."
