A Perth man high on drugs when he stabbed his mother to death in front of paramedics has been sentenced to life in prison. Callum James Cameron’s mother Carole Cameron, 63, had called an ambulance to their St James home on August 10, 2020 concerned he might overdose. When paramedics arrived, and as she tried to coax him to go with them to hospital, he took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her 62 times.
The court was told he had taken a cocktail of drugs because he was upset about breaking up with his girlfriend. An ambulance officer relayed back to headquarters that while paramedics were not under “any direct threats”, Cameron had an “unpredictable feel about him”. A stabbing frenzy on the cancer nurse erupted just minutes later, forcing them to flee the property. “Code black, mate, please. He’s stabbing the mum, he’s stabbing the mother,” a paramedic said in a desperate call.
