The Supreme Court of WA heard distressing details of the incident when the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced on Wednesday.
A Perth woman who held her children’s heads underwater and attempted to drown them in a backyard swimming pool has been jailed for four years after covert recordings revealed the “level of vitriol” she had towards one child in particular.
When he refused, she went over to him and grabbed his neck and pushed him face-first into the water so he was unable to breathe for a lengthy period of time. In the following days, the daughter, then aged seven or eight, was also given permission to play in the pool with her goggles and snorkel. Covert recordings played to the court heard the woman referring to her son in a demeaning manner, and telling others “I am going to kill him”, and was going to give him “another f---ing hiding”.
