Perth is experiencing its first severe heatwave of the summer, as the temperature surpassed 40 degrees Celsius for the first time since February.

Perth hit a top of 40.4C on Wednesday afternoon, making it the hottest day since since last summer, while the warm low overnight of 21.7C was about five degrees above the December average minimum.The hottest temperatures in WA were from south of Geraldton to the Central West, Central Wheatbelt and the northern and eastern parts of Perth.Pearce clocked 42.7C, Swan Valley reached 41.9C and Perth Airport 41.8C.
