Aurora Casilli, 18, says she lost $36,000 in an instant after receiving messages from a spoofed NAB number.The scam sends texts impersonating NAB and has cost dozens of Aussies thousands of dollars.It then prompts customers to call a number, and an allegedly fake operator then directs them to transfer money to a new "safe" account.
Casilli was devastated but her first question to herself was "how the hell am I going to pay me rent, my bills or the rego for my car".Casilli was not alone, Kyle Carey lost $8000 and now both have realised there are dozens of others in the same boat. Soon after, Carey realised he had been scammed and had lost thousands of dollars of precious savings.He claims the group has lost $400,000 so far.Kyle Carey has linked with other victims of the scam.
