Julie Cinanni watched both her mother and aunt succumb to the cruelty of dementia over 34 years. “Both Lorna and my mum existed for far longer than they wanted to. It wasn’t a life,” the South Perth woman said.

Julie was just 24 when Jean rapidly declined over 18 months. “She pretty much got to a point where she was immobile, put in a princess chair…she lost speech… couldn’t recognise us.” “I had young children, she couldn’t respond to them. She needed care with everything eventually. She pretty much spent seven years in that state.
