On a visit to Alice Springs, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says levels of crime and violence in the town 'wouldn't be tolerated in other parts of the country'.
Mr Patterson said crime was so bad that people were leaving Alice Springs "in droves" out of fear for their personal safety and livelihoods.
"Businesses can't operate anymore because of the vandalism and the bill that goes with that, so people are leaving in droves, and I can't blame them for that."
