Author and columnist Peter FitzSimons has asked the Federal Court to order Bruce Lehrmann to pay his costs of producing documents during the former Liberal staffer’s high-stakes defamation case against Network Ten and Lisa Wilkinson., will be determined at the same time as Justice Michael Lee deals with the legal costs of the proceedings generally.
If the court finds he was identified, it will consider the media parties’ defences, including their centrepiece defence of truth. The book deal was inked five days later. The Federal Court heard in November last year that Higgins had received $108,333 to date from Penguin Random House as an advance, but two further tranches of the same amount have not been paid.
