A 12-year-old Goers sold the Saturday News at Woodville Oval, near where he grew up, often spending his profits on hot chips. The well-known Port fan heads to China for the historic match between his team and the Gold Coast Suns in 2017.His cynical style of writing took a different turn in his latest book, or as he describes it, "a grief memoir", recounting the loss of both his parents, Margaret and Brian, in a plane crash in New Orleans, United States, in 1982.
He greets audience with "Hi ho, everybody" - a signature from radio performer Jack Davey - at the start of his weeknightly show, and signs off with a line borrowed from American comedian Jimmy Durante.
