More pets go missing during the July 4 holiday than at any other time of the year.CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s no secret that the booming sounds of Fourth of July celebrations can be a source of major stress for pets.
The American Veterinary Medical Association says pet owners should prepare in advance to ensure pets will be safe during the holiday. Among the AVMA tips: Look into having pets microchipped, which greatly improves the chance they could be returned if they are lost.Consider behavioral therapy to desensitize a pet if it has reacted poorly to fireworks in the past. Some pets might need medication.The AMVA also encourages people to leave their pets at home if they’re are going to fireworks displays, parades or other large, unfamiliar and noisy gatherings.
