The oral pill underwent its final test with results showing it 'significantly' reduces the risk of hospitalisation or death and could be a potential treatment in slowing the coronavirus pandemic.
Chairman and CEO of Pfizer, Albert Bourla, said more treatments were needed to treat patients as the pandemic continued to evolved two years later.
The drug could come at the right time as countries around the world continue to battle third and fourth waves of coronavirus. Meanwhile, cases in the United States continue to increase with more than 95,000 infections and almost 1,500 deaths.
