That vote was scheduled for the spring, while the provincial election would not be held until the fall. But Devine and his government became impatient, musing publicly about taking over the arena project. As a provincial venture, the vote would not be binding. The PCs swept every single Saskatoon seat in 1982, including a defeat of future premier Roy Romanow, but only managed to hold onto two in their 1986 re-election.
