New Jersey has settled a gender-based discrimination complaint filed last year against Pine Valley Golf Club.
Under the settlement, Pine Valley Golf Club agreed to end discriminatory employment and housing practices, and educate its employees about the requirements of state-regulated discrimination laws, according to a statement from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office. During the office’s investigation, the club agreed to lift its policy that only allowed men as members, and women have since joined.
The club was also accused of having unlawful policies in its employee handbook that prohibited men – but not women – from wearing earrings, and forbade employees from discussing their pay, which is violation of state discrimination laws, officials said. “The Division on Civil Rights continues to work tirelessly to end the abhorrent legacies of exclusion and misogyny,” said New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said in a statement. “New Jersey will not tolerate gender-based discrimination, and those who violate our laws will be held accountable.”
