Herald Sun business commentator Terry McCrann has refuted claims that Reserve Bank Governor Philip Lowe was predicting a nine per cent unemployment rate.
“What he was saying was hypothetical that if they didn’t get on top of inflation, that’s the sort of outcome that you might see down the track,” Mr McCrann told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“It was more of the bear in the woods that we all have to be afraid of, so let’s allow him to do what he wants to do.”

Two crucial things said by Philip Lowe that ‘pretty much all of the media’ has ‘ignored’There were two crucial things said by RBA Governor Philip Lowe that are “even more important,” but almost all of the media seem to have ignored them, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny. Mr Kenny’s remarks come after Mr Lowe was grilled at Senate Estimates on Wednesday over the RBA’s nine consecutive interest rate hikes, which have affected many Australian households. “They play into two big arguments I've been making here for years, both affect your cost of living and our national economic security,” Mr Kenny said. “First on the energy crisis, how we're paying too much for electricity and gas, how we've deliberately jeopardised supplies, how this pushes up prices, hurts household budgets and undermines the economy. “Well, the RBA Governor said he knows how to fix it.” Mr Keny said the second crucial thing was that Mr Lowe admitted that Australia’s economic mess, the inflation and cost of living crisis was fuelled by the “Reserve Bank overreach during the pandemic”.

Philip Lowe’s ‘performance’ at Senate Estimates was ‘weak’: Caleb BondSky News host Caleb Bond says RBA Governor Philip Lowe’s “performance” today at Senate Estimates was “weak” as people tighten their belts to pay mortgage rate rises. “Lowe’s performance today at Senate Estimates was weak, and the suggestions he was ambushed or bullied by the government, I don’t agree with that,” Mr Bond said. “Battlers who are already pulling in their belts are being punished for acts that were not their fault. “When are we going to see Lowe and the RBA take responsibility for what they did, which was reduce interest rates to historic lows at a time when government was pumping shedloads of money into the economy and tell us we wouldn’t have a rate rise until 2024.”

RBA Governor’s Senate Estimates appearance a ‘smack in the face’ to the govt ‘bullies’RBA Governor Philip Lowe’s appearance in Senate Estimates on Wednesday was a “smack in the face to the bullies”, according to Sky News host Andrew Bolt. Mr Bolt said the media “chased” Mr Lowe down the street, called him “our most loathed banker”, and demanded his resignation after the RBA hiked rates nine times. “But that is nothing compared to the outrageous way that Lowe’s been bullied by the Albanese government, and as I say, thank God the Reserve Bank Governor was defiant today when he was grilled by a Senate committee,” he said. “Let Labor threaten Lowe and also scapegoat him for their own failure to help fight inflation by cutting their spending. For their own failure to fight inflation by cutting power prices because of their global warming fantasies. “But Lowe says the bullies will not win. And good because the price of surrender is too high.”
