57-year-old Juan Jumalon was broadcasting from his home studio in the town of Calamba in the Philippines when the gunman gained entry by pretending to be a listener.
Juan Jumalon was shot dead A radio presenter has been shot dead while his programme was being streamed live on Facebook. The gunman shot Mr Jumalon twice before stealing his gold necklace and fleeing on a motorcycle with a companion, local police said. Officers are investigating and want to find out if the attack was work related. A video of the attack shows news presenter Mr Jumalon pausing and looking at something away from the camera before two shots ring out.
A screengrab from footage of the radio studio taken shortly before the shooting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr strongly condemned the shooting and said he has ordered the national police to track down, arrest and prosecute the killers. ‘Attacks on journalists will not be tolerated in our democracy and those who threaten the freedom of the press will face the full consequences of their actions,’ he said in a statement.
