The video for “Raven,” the most elaborate video Philosopher Pirate has released to date, doesn’t look like something cobbled together by a bunch of friends on the fly.
Directed by Courtney Collins of Non-Linear Knitting Studio in Jersey City, it involved a two-day shoot, stage and costume design, elaborate lighting effects, and even a bit of choreography.
“As for the choreography, we knew there was going to be some kind of raven dance at some point, and we had John Calleo on hand, who teaches dance,” Kuz continued. “He gave us some tips and explained some movements and the rest of it was just us putting our heads together and making it work.” “There was a lot of just me and Courtney going back and forth on logistics as well as story,” Kuz said, “trying to make it not too literal to the either the book or the song but inspired by both.”
The video represents the Latest Noise in a nutshell -- musicians helping musicians create a unified front -- and that will be in evidence when Philosopher Pirate takes the stage at Finnegan’s Pub, 734 Willow Ave., Hoboken, on Saturday, Aug. 5.
