The four candidates vying in a March runoff election for two spots on the Phoenix City Council have raised a combined $1.2 million this election cycle, with more than half going to one candidate.

Mayor Kate Gallego endorsed Robinson and has solicited donations on his behalf. His donors come from across the political spectrum and include prominent Arizona business leaders. Robinson and Stone are competing to replace outgoing Councilmember Sal DiCiccio in District 6, which includes parts of north-central Phoenix, Arcadia, the Biltmore area and Ahwatukee.

The election has the potential to shift power on the council in the mayor's favor and oust the city's most assertive left- and right-leaning members.by building a majority made up of less polarized members. Likewise, in the District 6 race, Robinson is focusing his message on centrism. A former long-time Phoenix police officer, Robinson straddles the political party lines as a registered independent who says bringing people together is one of his greatest skills. He has the backing of a number of politically influential Republicans and Democrats, including failed Republican gubernatorial candidate Karrin Taylor Robson, former state Attorney General Terry Goddard and U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton.

Morris frequently has business before the city. He recently asked the council to rezone about four acres at the southwest corner of 24th Street and Thomas for residential and commercial uses and one acre at 57th Street and Shea Boulevard for a residential office.Stone's donors are mostly attorneys, consultants and retirees. He also has support from the Arizona Free Enterprise Club's political fundraising arm, a conservative institution that advocates for open-market policies.

Political consultants Jessica Pacheco and Jenn Daniels also donated $1,000 each to both Hodge Washington and Robinson. Pacheco is athat regulates utilities in APS' favor. Daniels is the former mayor of Gilbert.
