US Secret Service suspends four agents over their involvement with two men who allegedly posed as federal agents, giving free apartments and other gifts to Amercians, including one who worked on the first lady's security detail

Taherzadeh and Ali were exposed when they gave false statements about being members of law enforcement to a US Postal inspector investigating the March assault of a letter carrier

in Southeast Washington, where the men were staying and had been offering free apartments and other gifts to U.S. Secret Service agents and officers. Investigators believe Ali had taken multiple trips to the Middle East and had three visas showing he had been to Pakistan and two Iranian visas, Rothstein said. US travel records also showed he had traveled to Istanbul and Doha, he said.

Prosecutors believe the men were trying to "ingratiate themselves" and "integrate" with US federal agents and people who worked in the US defence community, Rothstein said.Rothstein said the FBI uncovered evidence after searching several apartments tied to the defendants including a loaded Glock pistol, ammunition, components from disassembled guns and sniper equipment.

"Taherzadeh and Ali required that the 'applicant' be shot with an Airsoft rifle to evaluate their pain tolerance and reaction," an FBI agent wrote in a sworn statement.
