Clare Nowland’s pyjamas and the knives she was holding during the incident in a Cooma nursing home are shown in images released by the NSW Supreme Court.
A court has released images of a 95-year-old great-grandmother’s damaged pyjamas and knives seized from the room where she was Tasered by a NSW police officer who is standing trial for her manslaughter.
Further images show the interior and exterior of the nursing home where Nowland was found wandering while armed with knives before paramedics and police attended the scene. The court heard that about 3am, Nowland, using her walker, obtained two steak knives and a jug of prunes from the kitchen before wheeling herself into the rooms of three different residents.
Crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield, SC, said Nowland did not respond to requests to drop the knife. He said police body-worn cameras captured White saying “bugger it” before he Tasered Nowland, who then fell and hit her head. One of Nowland’s eight children, daughter Lesley Lloyd, gave evidence that she was contacted about her mother’s behaviour and had offered to come to the nursing home.
