But the not-fun parent plays a key, and often unacknowledged, emotional role in the lives of their children. And those playful parents? There’s sometimes tension surrounding the games they play.
“I’m too focused on trying to remember all the things that they [her kids] need to do, to sort of get through the day, whereas he doesn’t have any of those responsibilities at all,” my friend, who works at an aid organisation, says of her husband. “He’s just like, ‘No thanks, I don’t want to be on the school email list’.”
“I just got this card the other day [from one of her daughters], and it was just showing so much appreciation for everything I do. That I’m always there, she can always count on me, I’m always supportive. I’m a great role model.”
