The emergency services were called to a field near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire on Tuesday after a replica Spitfire crash landed.
Pictures taken at the scene show the rear section of the aircraft resembles the shape of a Supermarine Spitfire fighter. The original planes were used as fighter aircraft during World War I.
The Air Accident Investigation Bureau is on scene and investigating the crash, which happened close to the village of Enstone. Superintendent Jen Hogben from Thames Valley Police said on Tuesday: ‘We are on scene following this incident, and very sadly the male pilot of the plane has died. ‘The man’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this very difficult time and we will be supporting them.Police and the AAIB are investigating ‘We would ask members of the public to please avoid the area to assist us in conducting an investigation.
