Pizza maker Domino’s will close more than 200 loss-making stores globally in a move it says will position the business for sustainable growth. Asia will be the region heaviest hit by the 205 closures, with 172 eateries to be shut in Japan alone. Domino’s told 7 NEWS .com.au that four stores will shut in Australia -New Zealand, but did not say which locations will go. In a trading update on Friday, the pizza chain said the move would result in annual savings of $15.5 million.
” Domino’s had celebrated the opening of Japan’s 1000th store in 2023, with then chief executive Don Meij describing the team there as “world leaders” who were “raising the bar in operational excellence” and creating “exciting menu innovations”. But on Friday Domino’s said it was forced to act because stores opened in the country during the COVID-19 boom had been unable to sustain success due to declining post-pandemic demand.
