The owners have made a series of major changes to the pizza chain, including moving its headquarters to San Antonio.
Charles Loflin, co-owner and CEO of Pizza Patrón, bought the chain in 2016 with business partner Chris Partyka, who is co-owner and president of it.San Antonio businessman Charles Loflin had been a restaurant franchisee for nearly 20 years when an opportunity — and an appealing challenge — arose to buy one of the two chains with which he was affiliated.
Among their most consequential moves, Loflin and Partyka halted franchising to focus on corporate growth and moved Pizza Patrón’s headquarters to San Antonio from Dallas. Having initially shuttered some stores after buying Pizza Patrón, they’re now expanding. They’ve added six locations and are aiming to sign deals for another 160 in the next five years — a whopping increase from the chain’s current footprint of 82 restaurants in Texas and Arizona.
The logo, created by former executive Andrew Gamm, was intended to evoke a “Latin James Bond” and was inspired in part by Frank Sinatra’s “cool” persona, according to the company. In 2007, Pizza Patrón announced it would start accepting Mexican pesos and launched a promotion regarding that payment option. Although its restaurants received many death threats and hate mail, the campaign was successful.
In 2003, Loflin also became a Pizza Patrón franchisee, opening the chain’s first restaurant outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Southwest Military Drive.
