Some Sydney commuters will be able to ditch replacement buses early next year when services resume on the inner west line which has been sitting empty due to cracked trams.
Limited services on Sydney's troubled inner west light rail will return from February 2022 after testing confirmed different-sized trams from other lines can be used on the tracks. However, trams from the CBD and Randwick lines will start running on the inner west tracks next year
But today, NSW Transport Minister Rob Stokes announced that passengers won't be forced to use replacement buses for too much longer. Transport for NSW's chief operating officer Howard Collins said four trams from those lines would be redeployed and would operate every 15 minutes between Central and Lilyfield from February.Services between Lilyfield and Dulwich Hill will continue to rely on replacement buses but Transport for NSW said it would update commuters of any changes.
