From lakesisde glamping to a barbecue adventure, Dallas-Fort Worth offers plenty of places for fun.

Take an early-morning drive to Cowtown for a barbecue feast with your family. It’s got to start early, because eating some of the best barbecue in Texas means getting in line — sorry, but that’s how it goes. You’ll want to show up at 8 or 9 a.m. at Goldee’s Barbecue in Fort Worth, the No. 1 barbecue joint in Texas right now. It doesn’t open until 11 a.m., so here’s how you’ll cope: On the way to Goldee’s, stop at Zavala’s Barbecue in Grand Prairie between 6 and 9 a.m.

Next, grab a drink nearby. We suggest Legal Draft Beer Company, a communal spot that’s appropriate for kids — and lots of fun for adults. Take a stroll through Urban Union, Arlington’s new food scene, and swap the brewery for 4 Kahunas Tiki Lounge or The Tipsy Oak, if either of those bars suit your tastes better. Finish the day at Hayters, a bar owned by Brandon Hurtado, of the well-known Hurtado Barbecue — which happens to be right next door.
